A Decadent Gluten Free Chocolate Dessert

A Decadent Gluten Free Chocolate Dessert

It was my birthday on Monday and I asked Mr. DIY to make me a gluten free, flourless chocolate cake.
It was a big deal for me and I couldnt wait to have a piece because I havent had any sugar in over two months.

Yep,
that included Christmas (and two weeks before that)

You see, Ive been on a no gluten, no sugar, no dairy diet since then.
Ill share the reason why some other time.

I found the recipe on Confections of A Foodie Bride while scouring Pinterest about a month ago.
She calls her creation the American Beauty Cake. You can find the recipe and instructions on the link.

Mr. DIYs cake turned out as rich looking as the photo above, I didnt  get a photo with my good camera or good lighting because we were all anxious to eat the cake!

Do you blame us?

Mr. DIY made me a gluten free, flourless chocolate cake many, many years ago, but this one was even better.

Our round spring form pan broke, but we happened to have a heart shaped spring form pan, so thats what he used.

The only difference between the cake Mr. DIY made and the American Beauty cake is that he didnt put corn syrup in the glaze and left out the liquor.
Formerly being a pastry chef (dont be hatin on me ladies), he knew to increase the chocolate chips when he left out the corn syrup. (he doubled the amount of the chocolate chips)

This cake is so rich, our daughter and I couldnt finish our little slices of cake even though it was soooo good. I think my favorite part of the cake was the top layer with a little whipped cream.
It was definitely worth breaking my for.
