Fixing Our Vintage Cottage Cabinet

Fixing Our Vintage Cottage Cabinet

I found this cute vintage cabinet finished with an Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and distressed waxed finish way back in April of this year. I knew the minute I saw it in the showroom that it was perfect for the downstairs bedroom at our mountain cottage and that it was coming home with me.

It looked super cute in the showroom and I didnt notice it was missing something. Do you see what its missing?

Yup, it was missing a little piece on the left door.

Mr. DIY cut out a little piece out of some scrap wood and sanded it down.

I stained it with some Provincial stain we already had.
After that, I painted it with some ivory craft paint since I didnt want to go out and purchase a whole quart of ASCP just for this little piece. Finally, I distressed the edges and wiped on some water based poly.

The little piece outside wasnt the only thing wrong with the cabinet. A piece of wood had been set in the bottom of the cabinet,  but the piece of wood didnt go all the way to the sides of the cabinets so there were gaps on each side.

Heres the quick version of how Mr. DIY fixed the interior:

(He took off the back, bottom, replaced the bottom with a new piece of wood, then lined the sides so they would be smooth and replaced the back.)
I then painted the interior with Valspar Bird Song in semi-gloss and gave the shelves a coat of water based poly)

Heres how the cute Vintage Cabinet looks in the downstairs bedroom at the Mountain Cottage.

Were still working on the vintage style pantry at the Mountain Cottage and cant wait to share it with you.
Just thought Id give you a peek of how the pantry looked when it was a closet...

 Wasnt it lovely?
Stay tuned for the big reveal soon.
